Job Summary:

The Department of the Treasury, as the steward of U.S. economic and financial systems, is a major and influential leader in today's global economy. The Chief Counsel is part of the Treasurys Legal Division, and reports to the Assistant General Counsel (Enforcement and Intelligence) and the Principal Deputy General Counsel. The Chief Counsel (Foreign Assets Control) serves as the legal advisor to the Director and staff of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and is responsible for legal advice on the Treasury Departments role in developing, implementing, and enforcing U.S. economic sanctions programs pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, the Trading with the Enemy Act, the United Nations Participation Act, the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act, the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, and other legal authorities permitting or mandating the imposition of such sanctions to further the national security, foreign policy, or economic objectives of the United States. The Chief Counsel supervises a Deputy Chief Counsel, two Assistant Chief Counsels, and a professional staff. The Chief Counsel coordinates on sanctions-related legal issues with counsel in other parts of the Treasury Department and the broader U.S. Government.
