To find out more, go to http://www.va.gov/jobs/ The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) National Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention is seeking an experienced Physician with demonstrated clinical, administrative, and leadership skills for the position of Chief Consultant for Preventive Medicine (Physician) - Veterans Health Administration National Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (NCP). Board certification in Preventive Medicine is strongly preferred. The VHA National Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (NCP) is a Veterans Administration Central Office (VACO) Patient Care Services (PCS) field based national program office located in Durham, NC. The NCP is responsible for monitoring, encouraging, and promoting prevention services for veterans through clinical, educational, promotional and research activities by using resources throughout the VHA. Through the collection and dissemination of the latest scientific knowledge and information regarding health promotion and disease prevention, the NCP has an impact on the health and well-being of veterans throughout the VA. Efforts are aimed at improving the quality of life, preventing the onset of disease and/or identifying disease at early stages so as to limit its progression. The Chief Consultant for Preventive Medicine provides professional and technical guidance to VA Central Office leaders and Program Directors/Managers who are programmatically aligned with various operational services. The Chief Consultant for Preventive Medicine leads the Preventive Medicine Field Advisory Committee and participates in a number of other committees. The incumbent performs under policies established by the Under Secretary for Health and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and is responsible to them for effective and economical management of all program activities. Principal guidelines include Public Laws and related regulations, Executive Orders, Comptroller General Decisions, OMB and OPM regulations, VA national goals, objectives, policies and standards, and VA Directives, Handbooks, Program Guides and Circulars. The Chief Consultant exercises independent judgment, initiative, resourcefulness and originality in facilitating achievement of the VA's mission.
